About Us

After spending fifteen years living and working in the United States, our founder, Yolanda Ortega Zarazúa, often visited Mexican restaurants with her family to reconnect with the flavors of home. While sharing meals together, they realized that although many restaurants served Mexican food, very few captured the authentic taste they had grown up with. That realization inspired a dream—to create a restaurant where every guest could experience the true flavors and warmth of Hidalgo, just as if they were dining in Mexico.

That dream became a reality on June 29, 1999, when El Tlacoyo Mexican Food first opened its doors. Like every small business, the journey was filled with challenges. At the time, very few people were familiar with the rich culinary traditions of Hidalgo. Through dedication, authenticity, and consistency, the restaurant steadily earned the trust of the community and became a local favorite.

El Tlacoyo has always been a family endeavor. From the very beginning, Yolanda has been supported by her brother Carlos, her niece Yari, and her daughter Marycruz, who continue to personally serve every guest with the same warmth and hospitality that has defined the restaurant for more than two decades.

Today, every recipe is still prepared with care to preserve its original flavor and tradition. Among our signature specialties are our famous Tlacoyos Ahogados en Salsa Verde and our traditional Barbacoa de Borrego, dishes that reflect the authentic cuisine of Hidalgo.

For over 23 years, El Tlacoyo Mexican Food has proudly served the community through every challenge and milestone, remaining committed to quality, authenticity, and treating every customer like family.
